Can I wire a 5 amp lighting circuit with spotlights and/or some LED strips?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.24 PM

I realise I can put these on a 2 or 3 gang switch. But I want to put them on one gang, so one switch controls the lamps that are plugged in to the 5 amp sockets as well as some ceiling spotlights, and/or LED strips. Is it OK to have them on one circuit, or do they have to be on different circuits controlled by different gangs?

5 Amp allows up to 1.1K Watts, your very unlikely to exceed. Therefore, you are fine to complete on one circuit

They are ok to be on one circuit - as long as that circuit is safe to start with and all work is tested on completion

Lighting circuits are usually 5/6 amp, which is more than sufficient to supply low consumption led lighting, so YES go ahead and wire them into the existing lighting circuit.

There is nothing wrong with putting them together as long as there are protected by a 6 amp MCB
