Are they different at all? Any recommendations?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If you don't have problems with dump use standard multi finish. If there was damp proofing had been done its better to use specialised plaster. But any way quality of the finish is in hand of plasterer

Hi josh I would recommend thistle multifinish in my opinion it gives a great all round finish to multiple backgrounds including re-skimmed walls and artex ceilings, lightweight renders such as hardwall, traditional sand & cement render, I use multifinish for plastering on plasterboard aswell although thistle do produce a good boardfinish plaster I prefer to use multifinish. If the building is built of lime I would use lime plaster which lets it breathe

I prefer multifinish(gyproc) for use on different backgrounds, the quality of finish all depends on the quality of the tradesman doing the job, it all depends on the skimming job in question as to which plaster you would use........my guess is if the plasterer has left that option up to you then maybe you want to look for someone else to plaster for you
