Kitchen Fitted on top of Laminate Flooring
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.23 PM
I want to change my kitchen flooring but the kitchen has been fitted on top of the laminate (not by me!) Ideally I'd like to remove and have either engineered wood flooring or get the floorboards professionally sanded. How would I go about removing the laminate when it's under the units? Am I being hopeful or should I simply put something over the top of it until I can afford to get the kitchen taken out.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

It is possable to get the old flooring back out , just need to take your time and wind the legs on the bottom of the kitchen units up individually , once you wind a leg up slide the flooring out then put the leg back down till it touches the floor then repeat this on all units until old flooring is ripped out.
Failing that there it a power tool that can be used (multi tool) to cut the flooring behind the lung of the kick plates and lay new flooring up to it

As all the above (lift one leg at a time and drop to the ground after removing boards) with one potential problem. Depending on the kitchen desighn, the end panels of units and support panels between apliences will require some spacers under them. New flooring will have to be precision cut around them as engeneered wood is usuall thicker than laminate flooring and not all end panels can be easily removed. (also check for apliences height as sometimes they can be tightly fitted and if you increase floor thickness you might have a problem)

I would have to have a look if it is possible but what you are saying it can be done it would take time to take up the old flooring as you would have to do lift one leg at a time on the unit

Lift one leg at a time remove the laminate board under it then wind the leg down again and move along to the next.
