What form of Contract is most suitable for my house extension?
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.23 PM
I am getting a fairly simple and straightforward house extension built in the coming months, and am looking for some advice on the best form of Contract to use with the builder? I do not need the Architect involved throughout the build so Minor Works etc are not needed. I have been suggested the Home Owners Contract, is this robust enough for most works of this scale?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

One of the simplest and useful is the small works contract which you can download from the FMB (Federation of master builders)
Website.

I agree with britsbuilt, Fmb contracts are the simplest way forward for you.

Without doubt an FMB contract is more than sufficient. It's all I ever use and is clear and concise.

The FMB contract is the one I would recommend as it's written in plain English and very easy to use and clear on what's expected from both Client and Contractor.
