What are the best kinds of wood to make a hardwearing floor?

My hallway has a lot of foot traffic so I want something hard wearing, but don't know what the best kinds of wood to use are Any advice welcome! Thank you!!

Pine is much softer compared to other wood such as oak or maple, however Pine is cheap. All three would be hard wearing with a suitable lacquer finish applied but pine less so. Another cheap option is 'Engineered oak.' Harder than Pine, however the typical engineered oak veneer is around 3mm, so 1-2 re-sands is all you get before having to replace the floor. So solid wood boards are better long term. In summary a solid oak or maple with a durable lacquer. Hope this helps Kevin Floor Restore

If you want hardwearing you could go for wood planks effect tile(they look great). If you know where to look you can an 8mm oak on engineered board . Use wax oil. Any wood will need re treatment over time.
