Gloss for skirting boards

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.48 PM

I always end up with dust and dirt causing a bumpy finish with gloss paint - how can I stop this??!!!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Paint should be applied in a clean, dust-free area. If the boards have been sanded, wipe them down with a tack cloth and hoover up any residual dust before starting to paint. Ideally you'll use a new tin of paint, but if you are using a previously opened tin, use a paper paint strainer to get rid of lumps and impurities which will have found their way in; pour in to a paint kettle what you think you will need and use the kettle rather than putting the brush directly in to the tin. Put the lid back on immediately after you've poured out the quantity you need. Use freshly cleaned or new brushes so that they don't introduce contaminants to the surface you're painting.

Ensure the area is free from dust and debris which can be kicked up and contaminate the area you're painting. Always Hoover and dust down the area to be painted and if necessary wash down the woodwork. Ensure you pour the paint into an paint kettle and if your using a previous tin of paint ensure you pour this through a paint strainer (or an old pair of tights work a treat) When applying the paint if its oil based ensure that the paint doesn't feel like it is dragging as this can be a sign that the paint needs thinning down, to thin the oil based paint use white spirit or a suitable paint thinner.

Always hover up after sanding or even better use a sander with Hover pipe on the end to get rid of dust then always use tape on the floor to stop your paint brush hitting the floor always use good Dulux clean paint then the job should be a good one T.G decorators Ipswich

Make sure all skirting boards are sanded then sweep up. Make sure the area is dust free.

Also don't apply masking tape to the floor before sanding. Hoover and wipe floor area, if hard surface, with a clean cloth and sugar soap then apply tape once dried.
