Double Glazing unit condensation - DG Unit has failed?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.48 PM

So the double glazing unit on a first floor window has failed - there is water inside the window panes. So reading up the best option seems to be just to replace the glass. Now this window is also a bit draughty - so is this caused by the failng DG Unit?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The answer is to replace the glass this will help. In regards to the draught this is from the window itself not the glass. Tyrone.

The double glazed unit that has broken down will not make the window draughty, this is more likely to be hinge breakdown or a split or breakdown of the mastic sealant depending on the age of the window itself

The glass unit needs to replaced, the draft can be a cause of numerous issues easily solved. eg, broken friction hinge, worn gaskets, espag adjustment.

Defiantly replace the sealed, then see if the opening sash has dropped and requires re-toe & heeling or maybe a faulty hinge that could be stopping the window closing properly would be a good place to start.

Yes replace the glass . As for the draught you may need to replace the hinges and maybe re Seal around the frame with silicone .
