wiring for my shed from my garage

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.48 PM

So I have a 64amp Mcb in the garage , can I run and armoured to my shed and then protect it with a 32 amp RCD , the shed will only need 2 lights and 3 sockets for occasional use. I’m not doing the work myself but I want an idea so I know what to expect.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The size of cable capable of carrying 64amps (25mm) would be way to big to run down to a shed for 2 lights and 3 sockets and the cost of that cable would be extortionate. If you do your cable calculations correctly you may be able to get away with a 6mm armoured or 10mm

Leave it up to the electrician who does it.

Firstly, you would be better putting a 32amp mcb in the garage to protect the SWA, which could then be sized for a 32a supply which depending on the cable length, might be 4mm or more, then a small consumer unit in the shed with perhaps a 20a and a 6a mcb to protect the socket and light circuits respectively, where you put the RCD is open to debate, but in the shed would be my choice

I would run a 10mm armour cable protected by a rcd it can carry a load 50amp fit a 2 way consumer unit in the garage with a 32 amp breaker for the sockets and 6amp for the lights a 25mm cable is to big for the job and the cost would be a lot more when you dont need a cable of that size
