our shower tray is at least a foot off the floor so we need a step to get into it!

can any one answer why this should be? the previous owner had a plastic step to get into it,we want to lower it to the floor but dont no why its like that in the first place so we need to no if it can be lowered before we find someone to come in and drill through the concrete.

i suspect it is set at that height to allow adequate fall for the waste as the last owners were not willing to pay to have it done neatly ,like you have suggested buried into the floor ,more costly but like all things much better finish, and easier to get in and out without nearly breaking your neck lol

Substructure is right,it is definetly to allow for fall on waste pipe.I have seen this plenty of times.Get yourself a plumber to take a look.It may be that its more hassle than its worth to change it seeing as your floor is concrete and the tray is that high up.Nothing quite like viewing the job to give sound advice.
