Rumbling / creaking sound from roof
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.48 PM
Sorry to put this under the ‘new build’ tab but I don’t actually know what is wrong with my loft/roof. Each spring/summer, at almost the same time every day (between 1pm and 2pm) weird rumbling and creaking sounds come from my roof. The house is 7 years old. Any ideas as to what it could be? Assuming it is not structural as it is the same time each day. Could it be my cold water tank? I am not using central heating, taps or toilet when the rumbling starts. It is completely random in terms of that. Please help!!

That’s a weird one. Could be your tank filling up, unlikely to make a rumbling noise. Could be a bird in there. Have you been up to have a look.

Could it be the sun coming round and heating a particular part of the roof? That might cause roof materials to expand and rub together causing the creaking.

it is more than likely the timbers expanding and contracting with the heat.
