Ignitor not working properly on gas fire circa 1970s?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

My new house has a Baxi Gas Fire with back boiler and water tank circa 1970?? and the ignition is working intermittently, sometimes 5 or more times before igniting and resulting in a blowback flame when it does eventually ignite. Has anyone had similar experiences with these ignitors on this type of fire and how can this sort of problem be fixed.

Not many people still have one of these, if you contact Baxi they will let you know of an approved engineer in your area who can help. However, this boiler is now very old and definitely not as efficient as modern boilers, my advice would be to look to replace it.

As said in previous answer, contact Baxi, and make sure the engineer is on the Gassafe register.

I completely agree. Boilers over 10 years old genuinely are not worth repairing due to the lack of efficiency on converting the potential energy of gas into heat energy for your water. Paying someone to repair it will only delay you saving money over the medium term on gas consumption.
