Plastering & Rendering

One wall or whole room - price difference

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

In my upper floor maisonette I have had a warm air heating system replaced with a boiler in my loft and radiators added to each room. The pipes to the rads were chased into the walls and has left an ugly plaster work by the plumbers. I need to get this replastered in each room but if there is little difference in price between plastering one wall and plastering a whole room then I might as well get the whole room done. My bedrooms are approx 5m x 3m and 4m x 3m.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi degsy41, There would be quite a difference in price if you was to have both rooms completely skimmed. Even though the chasing may look ugly and hard to hide, it is actually very straight forward and less time consuming than completely skimming two rooms. However, if the remaining walls are not in the greatest condition, you may prefer to have your plasterer completely skim the walls that have the chases, to leave a perfectly polished surface across the whole wall rather than just in the sections where the chases are. There should not be a great difference in price for this. I hope this helps and wish you all the best !

Hi, yes there should be a big difference in price. If you have had your walls chased out by an electrician, I could easily patch to match perfectly , ready for redecorating , saving time and money. I would only offer to reskim if walls were in poor condition. Hope this helps.

Yes, quite a difference for the whole room. To fill the gaps that the plumber left would be a quick cheap job. To skim the whole wall would look better, but is obviously more work. It would only be necessary to skim the whole room if the plaster was in bad condition throughout. Although sometimes a newly skimmed wall will help you notice imperfections on the other walls ;-)

Hi ,the way I look at it ,if there are more than 3 chases in a wall skim the complete wall it’s approx 2.5 hours and will save time in the long run when it comes to decorating . Look at it 1 wall =25% Or £125.00 complete room 100% cost.

Better to plaster full wall where the wall has been ragald for electrical cable there would not be a big difference in price but if the other walls not in good condition and needed plastered there would be a big difference in cost
