Woodchip ceiling
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.47 PM
I have a couple of woodchip ceilings in my house which I would like to get rid of. But I'm not sure of how to go about this. Will the woodchip need to be removed prior to plastering?

In all honesty I’d plasterboard over the wood chip ceilings it will be a lot quicker to do this then trying to get it of yourself and a lot less mess. Hope this helps

The last thing you want to do is use a steam stripper on any ceiling due to blistering hot water running down your arms and on to your face,id advise to use a good quality scraper or long handled blade scraper to remove chips then using a sponge soak with warm water with a small amount of washing up liquid in it when the chips are removed the water will penetrate in to the paper and then remove with a scraper soaking two or three times may be required,i hope this helps

yes you would need to remove the wood chip wall paper due to the blemishes and cracks that would appear in the new plaster , i think the comments that the other experts have left are spot on , we would look to either remove the paper with a steaming option using the correct ppe , and yes possibly a pole scraper or the other option is to over board and skim , depending on what option you as a client want to take ,
thanks the repel team

I would personally use a steamer to soak or dampen with wet cloths. Then use a scraper or something to that effect to remove. Failing that you can buy a filler you can rub over wood chip that leaves a smooth finish. Hope this helps

You should score and then soak wood chip with a steamer or hot soapy water if that does not work you can use 1-1 unibond then skim with multi finish
