How to get electricity to a separate garage block

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.23 PM

I live in a terraced house. On the other end of the terrace is a block of garages. One of those garages is mine. Is it possible to get electricity to the garage? I'm guessing I would not be allowed to run mains cable under the garden of 5 other houses. How about a separate meter in the garage? How would it connect to the national grid. I ask because I want a battery car. One that charges up slowly overnight. But I don't have a driveway.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You need to ask your local DNO to look at the possibility of providing a new supply, if feasible they will give you a quote, then get a contract with electricity provider and get meter. Finally get a sparks in. If you get a good electrician he can arrange all of this at a cost.

Very expensive, as you would need UK Power networks to supply a cable, fuse and meter to the garage, by digging up the ground outside from the nearest supply. Once that is in place, you will need an electrical to supply and fit lights, sockets etc., in the garage

Hi There might be a possibility of running the cable overhead. You could rawl bolt a galvanised steel tower to your garage to extend several metres in the air then run a catenary wire to a second tower or the wall of your house. Then an armoured cable could be provided between your house and the garage to offer a supply for lighting, sockets and an EV charge point. Regards Gareth
