Plug socket not working - Also unable to physically switch it off
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.47 PM
This morning the kettle wouldn't work (plugged into the right socket of a double gang) I plugged the kettle into the left socket and it worked fine. Tried to switch off the socket by flicking the switch next to the plug and it's physically stuck. Have no idea if this is related or not but seems strange. None of the circuits have tripped as far as i can tell and the lights and all other devices seem to work in the room. Any advice?

Socket has failed and need replacing. Not a big job. Any competent Electrician can deal with this in 15-20mins

I agree that any competent electrician could change the bad socket in 15-20 mins, but a competent electrician would test the circuit and issue a certificate as well, which would take a little more time.

It just needs a new faceplate, if accessible and cable is all good behind, you would be looking at about 5 mins work, and about £20-£40 (depending on area, who supplies new faceplate etc.) for just the one faceplate change.
