Hot water and central heating

Hi..Hot water seems to be cutting out and going cold then hot and cold..heating is doing the same

From your description, I would assume this is a Combi boiler as the expectation is for instant hot water and not from a cylinder. Boilers normally have fault codes, this may be either a number and or letter on the display or flashing LED sequence and looked up in the back of the manual.From the symptoms,I would suggest a diverter valve issue without any other information as a starting point. To test / prove, ensure there is no demand for heating and locate the heating "flow pipe" from the boiler. Open a hot tap, the boiler will fire up and you should get hotwater at the tap. Any rise in temperature on the heating flow pipe would suggest the diverter is not seating properly and heat is escaping into the central heating system...
