Is it possible for a floor to be supported by cantilevered beams
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.01 PM
If you have a floor that is quite long in span (e.g 9m) and needs to be supported by beams, is there a way that that floor can be supported if you want to use beams without columns?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

yes but you would need a structural engineer to calculate the strength of beams required.

You would certainly need structural engineer to design it to maintain the safety and design aspect and prove it works .
Cantilevers have been around for hundreds of years and everything is possible if you design correctly

The question itself is a bit vague ! which storey is the floor required for ? what was there before ? what is the buildings construction? How much masonry is there above the proposed floor ? These details are very relevant to the question .
personally , I would be reccomending RSJs above cantilevered, and again a full engineers report !
