Bricklaying & Repointing

Lintel replacement

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.22 PM

Can you please advise normally how long would it to take replace the steel lintel above an external door (say opening 2m wide) in a morden house of 30 years old? Would the door need to be removed for the lintel replacement? What is the cost range roughly? Which section I should post the job? Is it bricklayer section? Many thanks Reggie

Door can stay in place. Work will take between one and one and a half days assuming plaster and render internally will need to be made good. Definitely a job for a bricklayer. Price depends on what part of the country you’re in. Hopefully this helps at least a little. Brendan

Door could stay in place but I wouldn’t recommend it without full protection ie bubble wrap or similar , size of opening at 2 m wide would need propping/ needles to old masonry / floor above until new lintel installed and made good .probably plasterboard on internal skin considering age of building (dot and dab ) . Depending on type of lintel used a pvc cavity tray should be installed over lintol and weep holes (3 no ) should be installed in perpendicular joints of masonry
