Pat testing home appliances
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.23 PM
If you have a home appliance that has a frayed cable that has been reattached with a debox will it still pass a pat test? I want to know for the purpose of re selling used electrical White goods to bed and breakfasts etc
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Why do you require a home appliance to be pat tested? Is it a rental property that you supply the appliances in?
Also an appliance only requires testing if it’s designed to be portable eg. Kettle, toaster, iron etc.

I wouldn’t buy it with a junction box on it.. But what I would do in your situation is remove the plug top from where it is, cut the cable where it’s frayed and then re-fit the plug top.. Not a junction or fray in sight...
