Kitchen Fitting

Moving cupboards to meet gas clearance regs

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.01 PM

I wish to know what distance between cooker hood and wall cabinets and space between gas hob and worktop. Only answer if defiantly know as hotpoint have refused to fit us a cooker due to cooker hood to low at 700mm and no gap between cooker hood even though cupboards are not directly over hob. So confusing.....???????

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

A cooker hood is normally between 650 -750mm height. But if unsure it will tell on the manufacturers manual. Space between work to and wall units is usually 490mm.

There are new legislation that some bigger companies (B&Q, Hotpoint, etc.) have to abide by under EU health & safety laws. This would mean if you have a 600mm hob the gap above would need to be 700mm between wall units. Technically a wall unit must be 50mm away from either side of the hob. Then any other combustible material should be a minimum of 300mm away from the sides of the hob. The height of the extractor would be different depending on type of hob (Gas, Induction) and manufactures recommended height. This means you can get a local trade to install the cooker as they are not under the same Health & Safety umbrella.
