electrical supply to garden shed

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

I have a cooker switch socket in my kitchen that is not being used, can i run a twin and earth 2.5 cable (via conduit) from it to my shed so as to power sockets for computer and desk lighting. Will not be running anything stronger than my computer and printer and the occaisional soldering iron. All will be using anti-surge system.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The cooker switch will probably be wired in 6mm cable, so coming off of that with 2.5 mm is a no no. An RCD has to be provided for this also. It’s not in the realms of a diy job tbh. I would suggest call an electrician in.

As well as it needing RCD protection, if you are using surge protection it needs to be within 10 metres of the devices you are protecting. If you are protecting against overvoltages (which 80% are) rather than lightning you need a Type 3 surge protector.
