Chimney breast vents in bedroom
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.01 PM
My neighbours cigarette and weed smoke travels through our chimney breast and makes our room smell. I'd like to block the.vents of but know this can cause dampness without air flow. Can i fit an air vent to chimney above the ridge tile and then block vents in bedroom. Hoping the new vent will still allow air flow. Thanks for your time

Yes you can do that but you might want to suggest seeing whey it’s coming through there might be a Small repair to stop the smoke coming through instead of blocking the air vents.

if the flue is not in use it would be better to place a vent at the top of the chimney breast on the ground floor. Seal up the one on the first floor. The heat in the downstairs will filter up the flue and take away any odours. That will take care of one flue but you probably have two, one for the ground floor and one for the first floor.
If that doesn't work you will have to vent off the other flue.
The two vents run side by side with a feather brick wall in-between the two. This usually is a bit leaky so you do have to vent them both.
