I can see daylight in my attic

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

I can see daylight in my attic. It's a new built 2 bed terrace tilled roof. The house was build June 2018. Day light can be seen at the join between my house and my neighbours. We are on a slight incline so my roof is slightly higher than my neighbours. Is this normal for a new build?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Missbp. Im afraid thats not right at all. There should be no daylight what so ever coming into your attic space. I can't imagine its really bad, but I don't know exactly where the light is coming in, but it might be coming in underneath the soffit board. Which ideally needs sealing up to prevent any moisture or rain driving in as it could cause damage in loft area. I hope this helps, please fell free to explain in more detail to where the lights coming in and I can help more

That would be a breach of fire regulations. If it is a new house, under 10 years old, it will have an NHBC warranty which should cover the cost of rectifying it.
