Damp Proofing

Size of gravel ditch around house

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.22 PM

Can someone please clarify for me how deep the gap between my house wall and the concrete path should be please? It will be filled with stones and it is a clay ground as opposed to soil if that makes any difference. Just need to know how deep it should be dug down before filling. Many thanks

6in is a good enough gap from path to house, the gravel helps water drain away from the house and also prevents splash back in heavy rainfall.

A depth of 6inch or 150mm is a building regulation for new build however this measurement should be taken from the damp proof course of the house downward and not the path height with the ground below being clay the deeper the better as the clay doesnt allow the water to soak away
