Why do we have terrible pressure in the upstairs bathroom cold taps - hot is excellent.

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

Hi, we recently had a new bathroom installed in a house we just moved into and the pressure in the bathroom was poor in all taps (we don’t know what it was like before the installation as we didn’t live here) We had a combi installed so the hot isn’t tank fed anymore and pressure is excellent but the cold is still terrible. Considering they are both supposed to be mains fed, I’d expect the cold to be better. There seems a gush of pressure when you turn the tap on but this is gone in a nano second. The cistern on the toilet fills quickly too. What could be wrong? Is there anything we can do short of lifting all carpets and floorboards up and spending a fortune to investigate? Thanks

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello there, If both of them are fed from the mains there should not be big difference between hot and cold (there is slight restriction on the hot side as the mains water have to push its way trough the boiler). You might find that there are isolation valves on the hot and cold feed to the tap (usually where the tap’s flexible hoses are meeting the hot and cold feed pipework) and the one on the cold feed is partially shut. Or that there is some debris caught behind the tap’s aerator. If it’s not one of the above you will need further investigation. Regards Bob

first check to see if your taps have filters in them most modern ones do ,it is probably muck in hot tap filter.
