Gas Works

No gas to my hob

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.23 PM

I have a free standing smeg cooker. Gas hob electric oven. All of a sudden today there seems to be no gas getting to the hob. The sparkers are sparking but no sound or smell of gas it's like someone has turned it off? My gas boiler is working fine. Any ideas before I pay for a engineer?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Most likely issue if all hob burners have no gas is the bayonet fitting at the end of the flexible hose where it connects to the house gas supply has come uncoupled. It may appear to be fully connected but you will most likely find if you try to pull it out it will come right out. It is a bayonet fitting much like the old ceiling and lamp bulbs, push it in, twist it and it will lock into place. This is something you can do. Less likely option is the lid shut off system as described earlier unless it is a Beko build. If this is the case look to see if the lid when fully upright is pushing down the valve under it at the back left. If the plastic end caps have broken then they wont be able to keep the lid pulled down at the back and when you open the lid, it will rise up at the back instead of pushing the valve down. You can check this by pushing the lid vertically down at the back when it is fully open onto the valve or use a flat thing like a spoon to depress the valve for testing purposes. Anything other than the bayonet will need a gas safe registered appliance engineer to repair it as the lid shut off system is a safety device and is not something you should mess with other than to explore and confirm the cause

hi, does the cooker have a safety closable top? sounds like a safety device isn't allowing gas to the burners. I would suggest to call a Gas Safe Registered engineer to help.

Check if the valve with the gas supply to the oven is not closed. Sometimes it happens that customers close by accident.
