Scratches on tiles during finishing

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.43 PM

Hello, during construction my builder has decided it would be a good idea to use sandpaper to remove the grouting from the tiles. As a result the tiles seem to be scratched and scuffed. These are not visibile during normal viewing however when light shines on them at a particular angle it becomes very obvious. I understand that as time passes, the tiles will loose their 'shine' but i was wondering if this was the proper way to 'finish' the job

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No,good working practice is to clean the excess grout off as you go,this will leave a powdery film which will simply wipe off once the area is dry.

Totally agree with m j services, never seen anyone use sandpaper on new tiles personally but as mentioned if the excess was wiped clean in the beginning then no issue!!

Unfortunately not. Tiles will get worse with the time, am afraid. The tiler could have washed the tiles using soft pad and mild cleaning product specific for tiles in the end but the good practice is to clean the grout with sponge and clean water before it goes off completely.
