Why would you choose not to put a membrane under pavers ?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.47 PM

I had my drive done. On the contract signed between me and the trader he stated he will put a membrane under the sand . He didn’t put one , he said the mixture of fine sand and cement will keep the weeds better..., What is your opinion please?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

The membrane is not essential, we have found through years of experience that the green /algae / weeds is airborne from tree's and bush's etc. To stop this you should powerwash and re-sand (kiln dry) annually

Membrane is not designed to stop weeds coming through paving its main purpose is to stabilise the formation prior to your sub-base ie type 1 if the ground is prepared correctly no weeds will come up through the paving
