I want to paint old wooden chairs. They seem to be varnished (not painted) Please have a look at pictures. https://ibb.co/7jFx56s https://ibb.co/W54NrkR What white paint is best to cover and give nice finish with least effort? Thanks in advance

Sand them done prep any holes with 2 part wood filler. Prim the wood with a white water based primer undercoat I use armstead. Then finish with Johnstone’s oil based satin.

After a good sand down i would use zinser bin primer. It is shellac based product which is also self knotting which will stop any resin weeping through. I find farrow and ball estate eggshell to be the best finish, i usually spray this to book selves wardrobe doors and kitchen unit doors. Price at £62 per 2.5l but can get cheaper acrylic eggshells if you shop around ( johnstones decorator centre is another place i use )
