Hot Water Cylinder

I have noticed a strange odour coming from the cupboard where my cylinder is It uses electric immersion heater. Its not quite a burning smell but it is strong.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Mark,
I would not use it until you call an electrician out.
The smell is likely to be the cable insulation going into the heating element.
It is a potential fire risk.

If you feel your able to safely, isolate the supply and unscrew the nut to have a look at the connections to the element, this will show you if as I also believe there some melting to the cable or connections. certainly do not continue to use and seek help. Regards
