How does the whole thing of choosing wallpaper and paint work?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.22 PM

Thing is im gettung quotes saying some will get paint others wont some have certain paints which none i like while others mention nothing about getting the actually stuff. This is my first time seems very unclear what im meant to do should 8 get all the wallpaper and paint myself or can decorators get it cheaper if anyone can clear this up i be grateful cause im rather confused currently

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there in my opinion I think you should supply all materials then things are a lot more clear then you will know how much labor you are being charged for the complete job and you also get to keep all left over for future maintainence. Other alternative is to go out there search for what you want make a note of price and quantity and politely ask tradesman to pick up the items for you hope this helps😄

Hi. I understand that it can be confusing....also sometimes for the decorator! But it isn't all about money. The wallpaper for example, it is unlikely that a decorator will ahieve much or any discount on that especially if it is ordered in. I personally prefer my customers to purchase the wallpaper, they will have selected it and sourced it anyway, i just estimate the number of rolls for the customer. Paint, i prefer to buy because i know the best paints, coverage, ease of application, drying times, durability. So i would select what i know works out best and that i can have tinted to the customers colour choice. By me making the selection with the above factors in mind then the price for the work is made more competitive. Often on smallish jobs there would be a potential discount but there would also be my time to factor going to get the paint ( and travel) I will use paint the customer supplies but i always discuss that with them when i visit the job and explain paints to avoid and why. Some retail paints i will refuse to use as they are woefully bad and i also refuse now to use oil based trim paints due to their poor quality now and frankly the smell. Hope this helps

Hi, as a decorator myself I only supply all white materials. So white emulsions, white undercoat, gloss, satin etc.. Plus all sundries materials such as fillers caulk, masking tape, sandpaper. I also will supply wallpaper paste only for wallpapering jobs. Personally I insist that the customer supplies the colours & wallpaper. Some decorators may require you to fully supply materials or may supply materials themselves and invoice you for them
