New UPVC Bay Windows Installed 1910 Terrace
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.01 PM
I need help please. The windows look like they've been fitted right no draft from actual window pains so thinking there’s an issue with how they have been packed. My bay windows still have the large wooden type joists behind sandstone pillars. The cold air coming into the house is worse than before. I need advice on what to do I’ve called the fitter who can’t understand why I’m complaining however honestly it’s bitter of a night & morning. So I desperately need some advice so I know what to look out for when they open up windows. Many thanks 🙏

The stone mullions on old bay windows can often be a cold spot between the PVC frames. You can install insulated plaster board or thin Kingspan panels and then trim over them to insulate the cold spot.

Expanding foam would be much more flexible especially if you buy a expanding foam gun off the internet, expanding liquid foam will work it's way into the smallest gaps and expand, then once the foam has dried you will be able to cut the excess foam back, cement over and paint if you prefer not to trim. This will not only make it draft proof but will very much help in making it sound proof.
Hope this helps
