Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.46 PM
HI, MY BUILDERS HAVE JUST DUG OUT THE FRONT GARDEN GROUND FOR DRAINAGE, SEWAGE AND I HAVE NOTICED MY HOUSE HAS JUST ONE MAN HOLE AND ONE SEWAGE PIPE, TO WHICH BOTH RAIN WATER AND FOUL SEWAGE GO THROUGH.THIS PIPE THEN GOES THROUGH TO MY NEIGHBORS GARDEN WHICH HAS ONE MAN HOLE AND THEN I GUESS TO THE MAIN ROAD SEWER.MY QST IS WILL I HAVE TO SEPERATE RAIN WATER PIPE FROM FOUL OR SHOULD I LEAVE IT AS IT IS?, AND ALSO IS IT NORMAL FOR HOMES BUILT IN 1920,S TO HAVE JUST ONE GROUND SEWAGE PIPE?..MANY THANKS

in towns /cities it is quite usual for foul and rain water to join up and flow into main sewer.

rain water can go into a sewer drain if this is the only option available (sounds as if this Is the case in your circumstances). However, the best option for rain water is a soakaway. This is Severn Trent water guidance. Hope this helps.
