Bricklaying & Repointing

Is above our door a simple job or a larger one.

We havnt moved in this house that long ago, and there has always been small cracks between the brickwork above the front door. But we have now noticed the bricks starting to move/rock when you open and close the front door. We are concerned it's a bigger expense, but hoping someone can shed a little bit of light on this for us. The door is situated on a flat wall with a almost porch with archway on the outer wall. It's a 1930's house. The bricks with cracking in question are on the inner flat wall directly above the door. It seems like the crack goes up, and then several bricks along comes back down. Almost like ten bricks above the door or more move when it's opened and closed.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

hello, with the details you have given, with a house built of that year It will have no support over the door ,unlike today's houses that use concrete /steel lintols ,,there ll be a couple of course of bricks running over the door up in between the joist ,and old lathe and plaster ceiling from your door and the outside archway ,opening and closing the door will add problems to the cracking of brick work ,a steel lintol desighed for one skin of brickwork ll do the job,,hope I've shed a little light on the subject ,thankyou Kelsey brickwork ltd
