Cannot read rating of old shower

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

Hi there, Does anyone know the kWh rating for the ancient original Triton T90? I’m referring to the beige coloured one that was manufactured in the 80’s. The label is worn on the one I found in the house we bought and I assume it was around 8.5-9.5, which is what the later T90XR offers. I want to replace like for like so the electrics won’t be an issue. Thanks!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Have a look at the breaker the shower is on. If its 32A go for a 7.5KW shower or less. If its on a 40A you can go for a higher rating. A 40A breaker needs a 10mm cable and to determine this will probably require an electrician. Ask for an electrician to come out and quote the job (this should be a free service) and they will tell you what cable and breaker you have. Hope this helps Haydn

If installed well, and in reference method C, a 6mm twin and earth cable can carry up to 46A. This would be enough power to comfortably run a 10.5KW shower, without any issues. A 10mm twin and earth cable, running in reference method 103, can carry a maximum of 32A. That would do up to a 7.3KW shower. Now there are other factors to consider here, but what I'm getting at is, it isn't as simple as saying a 6mm cable will do this, and a 10mm cable will do that.
