Problem with plug socket. Earthing.
Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.01 PM
Hi. I have a new faceplate for my double wall socket but the surgemaster extension lead earthed light isn't on. I've tried it on another plug and it works. Behind the faceplate is a brass screw block to put the earth wire into, which it is. Do you know the issue please?

The earth cable has two ends, so the other end in another socket may not be connected. So you may have other points with a non-effective earth.
Ensure you have RCD's on the circuit or you have no means of automatic disconnection under fault conditions. And if anything you plug in has a fault and a metal case part then you are dead.

Could be no earth continuity to that socket on your fixed wiring or a bad connection to your socket. Maybe you’ve screwed onto the sleeping ?

You say... "Behind the faceplate" '?' Do you mean on the socket or in the metal box in the wall? It needs to be in the socket (rear of). if this is the case you may have a break in continuity elsewhere. If it's in the back box then you need to extend the connection into the back of the socket. Remembering that the metal box in wall also requires earthing
