Insulation

Do I need to tape rafters between inundation in flat roof?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.21 PM

Hi, We part way though an extension and are doing some bits ourselves. The builder did the construction, but we’re doing the roof insulation and the boarding. We’ve used 10cm kingspan between the rafters, and will then cover the whole thing in 2.5cm Kingspan, which is what building control want. Do we need to tape the rafter between the 10cm insulation with foil tape to meet bulidng regs? Many thanks,

The 100mm would be sufficient enough with the 25mm going over the top. But would do no harm in you taping it aswell for extra piece of mind

Personally i use expanding foam between the joists and joints, and then silver tape the joints. It ensures you achieve the maximum thermal rating for the surface.
