Render Vs plasterboard
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.43 PM
I have taken a 1906, 9" solid brick property back to the brick in every room. Have been told a few different things regarding putting back together. Majority are promoting plasterboarding by dot & dab, being 9" solid is there future problems with 'footballs' appearing where the adhesive is on external walls. Is sand a cement render the better option ? Or something like gypliner where plasterboards are fixed to metal Frame. Thanks.

Hi, yes your right the plasterboard will end up like a Dalmatian dog the dabs that fix the board start to stain out. I do sand cement render with D.P.C recommended waterproofing on all jobs on old property's. Even use limelight for more problematic jobs. Hope this helps.

If your going to use plasterboard I’d use thermal backed plasterboard as the dabs are not directly from wall to board .ie no footballs appearing .using thermal boards also makes the cold wall warm walls making it harder for condensation to build up and not form mould .

You would be better of rendering the walls with a water proof base.
K rend do a product called k mix which has waterproofer in it. Using the bagged materials saves time as all you need is water& a bucket to mix it up. No need to buy cement, sand& waterproofer. It also works out to be cheaper as its roughly £6 per bag
