stove surround - fire retardant decor

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.22 PM

we've had a stove fitted and although the space from stove to wall edge meets requirements we have had some cracking on one side from the top left corner of the opening upwards. It's a floating oak mantel above it. The fitter fitted the heat retardant plasterboard and plastered it (then we painted it) but now thinking we need a solution that is better than paint. Don't want a dark surround but any suggestions on attractive material that can surround the opening containing the stove that is heat resistant? thanks for your help.

Hi There This seems like a common problem but you don't need to worry. The fitter should NOT have plastered it !! Just get a fitter to install some concrete fireboard you can then just paint it cream, green or whatever colour you like and it won't crack. It needn't be an expensive job. Good luck- Alex @ South West Fireplaces, Wells.

Hi i would recommend a natural stone surround such as Limestone, Marble or Granite which comes in many patterned lighter colours, and would recommend 20mm or 30mm thick material being natural stone its beautiful to look at as well. and fire retardent. Kind regards Simon

How about tiling onto the surface using flexible tile adhesive. There is also heatproof adhesive but I doubt you'll need this. That way, you can have a bespoke surround with tiles that you choose. There are tile trims that most tile centres can provide for a neat finish on the edges. All the best, Damian @ Blazing Burners
