Light and air coming in around vertical flue

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

We recently had our boiler flue moved from going through the wall to going through the roof. I can feel cold air coming in around the flue and see light coming in at the top of the flue (when looking from the inside). Is this normal? It's also quite easy to move the flue by hand, as it's not secured with brackets. The flue is not that long, so I'm not sure if it is necessary?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

If you can see daylight, then the flue hasn't been fitted properly and could allow ingress of water when it rains, the flue should be supported using manufactures approved clamps/clips, the clips should be fitted before every bend and joint and depending on manufactures some require the flues to be screwed at every joint. Unsupported flue will be classed as At Risk under as per gas industry unsafe situations procedure (GIUSP), I would get a gas safe engineer who is allowed to work on boilers(check the reverse of the gas safe card) to check the flue over.

As above this is definitely an "at risk" situation with Gas Safe. Incorrectly fitted boiler flues can,do cause fatality's annually, i would have this inspected by a competent Gas Safe registered installer immediately! Daniel.
