Plumber Patty: to use or not to use?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.21 PM

Is it absolutely necessary to use the plumber putty to fit the basin waste or would be enough just to tighten the supplied fittings with washers really tight? I have the Hansgrohe click clack basin waste. Thank you.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I use ptfe on the thread and use the given seals that come with the waste, usually one for the top and one for the bottom, I use the ptfe as I always find it’s the thread what leaks never had any issues or come backs in 10years - I hate using putty or plumbers mate products they make a future repair very complicated

It is not essential too use putty as the rubber washers that come with a basin waste are perfectly capable of making a water tight seal although I would recommend using a small amount of putty like plumbers mate too make absolutely sure.

You don’t need to use and putty as the rubbers provided are perfectly fine to use.

We have never used putty. If the manufacturers rubber seal doesn't hold we will use Lsx or silicone to guarantee a seal
