Kitchen Fitting

Will replacing worktops only mean we can’t replace the kitchen units in future?

Hi, So with our house purchase we inherited an ikea cream gloss kitchen. Not really our taste but it isn’t old enough to justify ripping out. The worktops are scratched and need replacing and we are thinking butchers block. My question is, if we pay for tiling on the walls, and for new worktops, but save up and decide to change the kitchen units and doors etc. In two years, will the worktops be damaged? We wouldn’t change layout it is too small and we like where things are placed. It’s just the cream gloss. I don’t want to spend on butchers block worktops and fitting if replacing the kitchen will damage them through removal in the future. Any help is gratefully received! Thanks EDIT: Thank you so much for your responses- I can’t see a way to reply to you both separately. I think we are going to have a go at the suggestion to replace cupboards with IKEA White cupboards. Someone at work told me about roll vinyl that is glossy and we could cut that to cover any remaining “cream” bits. I’m not sure if it will look any good though and will have a look for a company that updates kitchens as suggested. You’ve saved us a lot of money on an unnecessary installation of a brand new kitchen!

Your worktops are secured independently to your units, but have to be jointed if turning a corner/entering another worktop, they are normally clamped and sealed with a colour match, in order to change your units in the future the worktops would have to be removed, if you were going for a solid wood worktop breaking the joint/s if they are any? shouldn't be a problem if they were going to be standard laminate worktops there could be a risk of damaging the laminate when breaking the joint. In terms of changing your units, your doors and end clad panels can be changed independently of the units ( it's easier if you go with existing make replacement panels) as will be designed to work with existing units cornice and pelmet inc. if your cabinets have been correctly put together and installed they will normally last 20+ years sink unit exc. as this normally gets damp and deteriorates my mother as a chip n dale kitchen that is in wood effect 25 years old, if she wants a change at some point i will change worktops, panels , doors cornice etc and leave units intact if you are happy with shape and design a lot of people waste a lot of money on new cabinets they do not necessarily need hope this clarifies the situation don't ask a kitchen salesman for advice as they want to sell you a complete kitchen regardless of quality of exhisting kitchen

As you are happy with your layout there is no need to disturb the existing units, look for a company that will provide made to measure doors and drawer fronts then it's just a simple reface, good luck.
