Cooker Hood - No power
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.46 PM
The light in my cooker hood fused and I changed it while the extractor hood was still running. The as I was unscrewing it there was a loud pop and the glass part of the light seperated from the metal screw it part. The main fuse tripped. I removed the metal part of the bulb, which was in one piece. I turned the power back on but the cooker hood doesn't work. I have changed the fuse but it still doesn't work. There is no power going to the cooker hood. Any ideas?

Hi,
When removing the metal part of the lamp(bulb) from the lamp holder you might of made a permanent connection between live and neutral withing the cap?
If so.. the connection will have to broken to reinstate power to circuit but i would not try to reuse this part of the hood as it will need replacing.

Hi there. A cooker hood is often power supplied via a local switched fused spur or plug top, with a 3 or 5 amp fuse inside. If you lever the plastic fuse carrier (which is usually labelled on the switch) out with a flat head screwdriver, you may find that the fuse has blown in the fused spur as well and a replacement BS1362 fuse is needed. There may also, depending on the extractor hood manufacturer, be an internal fuse inside the extractor power connections, which might have blown when the light bulb shorted, this might also need replacing.
