Can a neighbour erect a higher fence alongside mine
Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.22 PM
I have recently erected a five foot fence on one foot high gravel boards in my garden. The top of the fence I arched trellis. My neighbour objected as she feels the trellis intruded on her privacy. I disagree. They are now erecting a higher fence on their side alongside mine. Can they do this bearing in mind the total height of my fence is six foot.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No he can’t, it has to be all withstanding throughout, as applicable to regs.

Pretty sure they can erect a fence their side as long as it’s on their land and doesn’t exceed permitted heights as published by your local council

Yes they can put up a fence on there side. When putting up a trellis top fence. The height is to the top of the fence not the trellis. So it might be worth putting another gravel board under to take the height up.
