What is a spur in terms of security alarm system

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 3.01 PM

Hi, I am buying a new house and the builder says the following: there is wiring for an alarm this is in the form of a spur to enable you to connect a wireless alarm. What does this mean exactly? How will this help with installation? Regards

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

All alarms systems ideally should be connected to a fused spur. The spur comes off the mains ring circuit and is stepped down to 3A. The fused spur should be unswitched so the alarm system cant be unplugged or switched off without an intentional trying to isolate the alarm system from the mains.

A spur is local power point 230v AC not a socket , normally located where a system is going to be installed to give it power and is for its use only ( alarm system ,boiler , etc.. ) . and should be labelled on you fuse board .
