Noisey/hauling windows when very windy
Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.46 PM
Hi there, we moved into a house around 3 years ago and when its really windy one of the windows hauls/whizzes which then wakes my son up etc etc. I can feel a draft coming through the window even when the are closed. There is also condensation from time to time. Any thoughts?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Jenny. 2 seperate issues there. The condensation ,if it's between the 2 panes of glass, means the seals have gone and the glass unit needs replacing. This is normally fairly straightforward and is far cheaper than replacing the whole window. If the condensation is forming just on the inside of the glass then you'll need to think about opening the window a little bit to allow any warm air to escape before it condensates on the glass.
The whistling noise could be a couple of things. The rubber gaskets around the windows may have become worn/perished and so don't compress properly to stop any drafts.Or it could be that the hinges have failed and so aren't pulling the window in as tightly as they should. Both of these are things that can be repaired/replaced fairly easily and cheaply.Hope this helps.
