Gas Works

Gas Leak Found in my Terraced Property.

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.46 PM

I recently was told from a Smart Meter Engineer there was a gas leak in my terraced property which I saw for myself on the testing equipment, so I could not have the gas smart meter fitted. I called out a local gas safe engineer same day to find the leak. It was found somewhere in the downstairs of the property, and my house was made safe that same day, by cutting off the gas supply to the downstairs area. I have tried several times to get the engineer back to carry out repairs but I have been let down and I think it is because I have laminate flooring in my property and comments about the laminate was made by the engineer while on site. Can leak detection be found through Laminate flooring? or Am I better just ripping the whole lot up, then get another engineer, get the leak repaired? Cheers in advance for any help and advice given

Sounds like that when attempting to find the leak the floor would have to come up anyway, the other option is to find a different route for the gas pipe and bypass the problem thanks Simon

Don't be ripping up your good Laminate floor. Your gas pipe can be capped off and a new route for your new Gas pipe from your Gas Meter to your boiler can be found. Thanks Gavin.

In these cases it is often easier and cheaper to run new pipework around the outside of the property and then through the external walls to the appliance. This is perfectly acceptable practice and from a man hours labour charge perspective will more likely be cheaper
