Enlarging new watermark or previous watermark coming through?

Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 3.21 PM

Hi! I have an odd question. Per the attached photo, I have the brown mark (by the head my bath tub) enlarging beyond the pencil tracing. I noticed the brown mark about a year ago and decided to trace it with pencil to see if enlarges and go beyond the mark. Only very recently did I notice it to go beyond the pencil tracing and am wondering whats going on! As background, the bathtub was sealed properly when I moved in and water was coming down from the top, along the wall down to the floor. The builders had then patched it up and repainted. I just find it very odd the brown mark would appear right in the middle, not at the top or at the bottom. Can anyone help pls? (Ps: don't think we can upload pictures here?)

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

This is definitely a leak.

We can't see your pic but if you are describing a damp patch on the ceiling below your bath it is not unusual for staining to occur some way from the actual source of the leak as water will run to the lowest point, puddle and seep through. Sometimes when staining from a previous leak has been painted over the staining will appear again if the surface is dry treat it with a stain blocker and repaint. If the surface is wet or damp it's safe to say you have a leak.
