Cracks in new house - minor or major concern?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 3.22 PM

Hi, I'm in the process of purchasing a new house which contains a number of cracks on the ceiling etc. A few pictures are below. You may need to copy and paste the URL into a new tab to view. The house was extended five years ago and all of these cracks generally are in the 'old' part of the house. It's a 1930's house. I know that as part of the process I'll be getting in a full structural survey anyway but I wondered if there was any insight as to what I might be possibly be letting myself in for. Minor issues? A result of the extension or something quite severe? Hopefully they'll come through as clear as they do on my phone? Thanks in advance https://drive.google.com/open?id=1CzVgKo3YH-w5G7wln86LfGNN62Jzq840 https://drive.google.com/open?id=18D6rqZuvDsRdCqMhgbamfnJBCGH14gb7 https://drive.google.com/open?id=1UK-hbQKE5G6PiMmMaIjuOGYtaJ3rqufQ https://drive.google.com/open?id=15oKYMudBMeid_Qwxa6sB1rnJyZ2KUmWD https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Sd7uF5rSyxQ6ZQBe44dovKgh19JE5WnC https://drive.google.com/open?id=1bA18CmL9Wz7d3ayFlsuKp0qieLKnNU-s https://drive.google.com/open?id=1Cq_UV2ZzMKEcVQbvgs4HlfMauS1g-caM

Hello! This is a minor problem that is common amongst houses that have been repainted numerous times . The cracks appear just as a small warning . You don't have to worry about it for now. If you have more questions don't hesitate to ask! Thank you!

Cracks can be for a number of many reasons. Major cracks can be from movement in the building for example footings which can lead to needing under pinning. Worst case normally. Little crack in ceilings can be from movements in the ceiling joists. If lathern plasten, can cause cracks because very old. Cracks in walls can be from blown wall ties or blown plaster, movement in the building. Cracks normally can easily Be resolved so just keep and eye on them seeing if they are moving at all. Many thanks
