Filling a 6 inch depth gap between windows where a wooden frame finish was originally there.
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.42 PM
We hve recently had upvc windows put in, in a 1908 house where previously sash windows were. Where the weights for the sash windows were there is now a huge gap where a wooden frame was covering the windows. I am now confused with how to fill this gap in, with making a similar wooden frame to put the curtains back up and what would be used at the top in order to not put any weigh on the windows from the top?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

As you have changed your box sash sliding windows to Upvc windows you know that make up is different. Box sash windows are called this because of the box that carries the weights to allow sashes to slide up & down. Your window installer should have filled empty void with either timber or brick work. They should’ve installed a new window boards,Insulation and then covered the exposed area with timber or Upvc finish.
